Free Hit vs Bench Boost - when do you fire them in the run-in?

Six weeks left, two chips in the locker. Looking at the schedule there's a confirmed DGW around GW34/35 and a probable BGW after that.

My current plan:

  • Free Hit the BGW. Stack whoever has a fixture.
  • Bench Boost the DGW. 15 men, all with two games.

Problem: my bench is dogwater. Three £4.0 defenders who haven't kicked a ball in months. Bench boost might give me 6 points total.

Do I burn transfers fixing the bench in advance, or flip the chips and free hit the DGW for the league-leading captain ceiling?

Flip them. Free hit the DGW with the best captain in the game and 11 nailed double-gamers. Bench boost the next single gameweek where you have a properly priced bench. The textbook DGW Free Hit move.

Only bench boost a BGW if you've spent two weeks building a bench that actually plays.

I'm the opposite school. Free hit blanks, bench boost doubles. Free hit lets you completely ignore your bad squad for one week, which is more valuable in a BGW than a DGW imo. You can plan transfers towards the DGW.

If you're chasing in a mini-league, free hit the DGW. If you're protecting a lead, free hit the blank. Risk/reward.

Update: going Gaffer's plan. Free Hit the DGW, save the BB for a rebuilt squad in GW36. Will report back with the carnage.
